Historical data from a 1947 survey of restaurants indicated that machine-washed dishes had significantly lower levels of bacteria compared to those washed by hand, particularly in cases where towels were used for drying. For those who still prefer to hand wash their dishes, a German study suggests using the double-sink method as a more efficient alternative. This involves using one sink with hot soapy water for washing and a second sink with cold water for rinsing, without any running water.
